Foreign Accent Syndrome
Who was the most famous person with a case of this? Other well-known cases of the syndrome include one that occurred in Norway in 1941 after a young woman, Astrid L., suffered a head injury from shrapnel during an air-raid. After apparently recovering from the injury, she was left with what sounded like a strong German accent and was shunned by her fellow Norwegians.
Is there a cure for this ?If you have FAS, you may revert back to your native accent in some cases. It might be a permanent change for others. Speech and language therapy can help you manage your symptoms to a certain degree
What are the long term effects of this ? The accent remains relatively consistent over time and is not something the person is “faking.” People with foreign accent syndrome usually have brain damage or a neurological condition, though some have mental health conditions.
